Why We Started The Green Cheeks
Hi everyone, and welcome.
The Reality of Recycling Entering the recycling industry years ago revealed firsthand what happens to the things consumers throw away. It became painfully clear how difficult it is to undo the damage of plastic and unsustainable materials once they enter the system.
There is a stark difference between "theory" and "reality." In theory, many things are recyclable. But in the commercial world, cost and government policy often mean these items still end up in landfill.
The Root of the Problem Excessive packaging is a massive issue. While things have improved over the years, there is still a long way to go. Brand owners and manufacturers rely heavily on consumers and local authorities to recycle everything correctly. Unfortunately, there will always be waste that slips through the net.
But looking away from the packaging, what about the product itself?
The Problem with Paper Toilet paper is the perfect example. Why are we cutting down trees to fulfil a daily necessity? At school, we are taught from a very young age how important trees are, yet major players in the industry are still using virgin pulp to make disposable paper.
Most people look at a toilet roll and just see a household necessity, something boring that gets flushed away and forgotten. However, the reality is millions of trees are being cut down for a single use, wrapped in plastic packaging that will sit in landfill for 500 years.
It became clear that if we want to change the world, electric cars and renewable energy alone are not enough. The real potential for change lives in the daily essentials we have grown so used to, that we barely pay attention to them. A small shift in what we choose there can create an impact far greater than we realise.
The "LED Lightbulb" Moment Do you remember 20 or 30 years ago when the world started switching to LED lights?
At first, people were sceptical. They said LEDs were too expensive, or the light looked "weird." But the logic was undeniable: Why use an old bulb that wastes 90% of its energy as heat, when you can use one that lasts longer and saves the planet?
Today, nobody thinks twice about LEDs. They are the standard, and prices have dropped dramatically.
We are now at that exact same moment with toilet paper. Using virgin tree pulp is like using those old, inefficient incandescent bulbs. It is outdated. It is wasteful. And frankly, it doesn't make sense anymore.
Bamboo is the LED of the paper world. It grows back in months, not decades. It requires less water. It absorbs more CO2. It is the obvious upgrade.
Not Just Another Label So, why launch The Green Cheeks when there are already many players out there?
Because a worrying trend emerged. As bamboo became "trendy," brands were jumping on the bandwagon just to make a quick buck. Generic products were being labelled as "eco-friendly" without enough care for the details.
Key question: How many brands have visited their manufacturers? Are the products coming from FSC certified forests? Is there a team on the ground ensuring quality? Or is everything being outsourced through a third-party agent?
That wasn't enough for The Green Cheeks.
Our expertise in supply chains and logistics is the backbone of our business. We prioritise product safety through rigorous testing and certification. This technical knowledge, combined with our strong team in China, allows us to guarantee a product that is consistent, high-quality, and true value for money.
We engage directly with manufacturers, no middlemen.
We quality check every batch, testing with local and UK independent laboratories.
We strip away the marketing fluff to focus on the science of the paper, making sure it is truly sustainable, high GSM, and true value for money.
We aren't here to ride a trend. We are here to set a standard.
This Is Just The Beginning
The Green Cheeks is starting with toilet paper because it’s the product people use most often and think about least. It’s where we can make the biggest immediate impact.
Our mission is rooted in a genuine passion for reducing waste, to introduce a whole range of products that help you make that "switch" without compromising on quality or breaking the bank.
We are here for the eco-warriors, the busy parents, and everyone who believes that small change, like the roll you reach for can add up to a massive difference.
Welcome to The Green Cheeks. Let’s clean up the industry, one roll at a time.
